Review
This is an informal sort of page of websites that I think would
be useful to the average computer user. They just have
some basics that will help out almost anyone that comes on the
net.
CNET.Com - This is one of my favorite websites.
Its download section www.downloads.com
is a great place to find software that you need. I also
like that fact that they allow users to rate the products.
It's just one of the best ways to find out what products are
worth the time of a download. It also has some very interesting
reviews of web products, computer software/hardware, and a great
deal of other information about the internet. I don't
always agree with the editors viewpoints on certain products,
but overall its a very good resource on the net.
House
Call Online Virus Scan - You'll find a listing for this
website in the antivirus section, but basically it is an online
virus scanner, free to use, and it will scan your computer to
see if you have any viruses present. I happen to like
this site, the scanner works, and great for people that have
yet to put any antivirus software on their computer.
Yahoo
- Yes, so everyone knows about Yahoo, so why am I mentioning
it here. Well, I wanted to point out that Yahoo has the
best free email service on the net at the moment. They
give 4 mb of space and have an automatic antivirus scanner that
will scan attachments that is sent to your email account.
Here is something that most people wouldn't think of though,
Yahoo Email allows you to check you POP3 account, all you do
is add you POP3 server information and your email from there
will be sent to your yahoo account. This is great if you're
traveling and you don't have webmail on your POP3...just use
Yahoo mail to get your messages. Personally I recommend
newer users to get a Yahoo email account because of the reasons
I've listed.
Hotmail
- Yes another free email and not as good as Yahoo Email, but
I list it here because its probably the easiest email to set
up in your Outlook Express. All you have to do is plug
in the username and the server address will be entered by Outlook.
So it makes it an easy no brainer to set up.
Playsite.com
- All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, well, okay that's
been overused, but here is a pretty fun game site where you
can get a game of cards going or play online Scrabble, umm,
what word do you make if you have the Q and no U? Ahh
mysteries of the ages, but this is a fun site to play at and
managed in a very professional way.
Netmechanic.com
- This site is geared more towards the webmaster, but it has
some very useful tools that will check out your site for errors,
a pretty good resource of information.
Well, that's just a quick
list of web pages I could think of off the top of my head, I'll
be adding more shortly because, well, I just will :o)
