Editors
The HTML editor has come a long way since the first webpage
that I wrote. If you know HTML code then all you need
is notepad and you can write the webpage, but with so many advanced
time saving HTML Editors out there why suffer writing out endless
tags when learning a good WYSIWYG editor can save you lots of
time and give you a more professional look. These are
the HTML Editors that I use and that I like to use:
Dreamweaver
MX
Rating:
Cost: $400
Review: This program
is for professional webmasters that make their living at writing
and maintaining webpages. The cost seems high at first,
but the amount of functions, the ease of use, and the great
macromedia tutorials are worth the money! You can easily
incorporate CSS, Javascript rollover images, ASP, ColdFusion,
and any other of the advanced webpage design elements.
I want to state though that this is for professionals, if you
just want to write up a personal page for yourself and never
really bother writing another page, please use some of the cheaper
programs I'll be listing below, but if you want top of the line
webpage editing software, Dreamweaver MX is the program to get.
You can download a free trial of this software here Dreamweaver

MS FrontPage 2002
Rating:
Cost: $169
Review: FrontPage
usually get slammed by most webpage designers because of "sloppy"
coding, etc, but I found the most recent release of FrontPage
to be fairly good with coding, super easy to understand, and
the cost is reasonable. This program would definitely
be usable for any beginner to intermediate level webpage designer.
The good thing about this program is you've probably gotten
it bundled with other MS programs like Word or Excel, so if
you have FrontPage already and you want a good solid html editor
that's easy to understand then use this program. I would
recommend this program for beginners / intermediate level web
designers, if you're an advanced user then stick with Dreamweaver.
1st Page 2000
Rating:
Cost: Free
Review: When I started
to write web pages this was the program that I used. It
is an html based program, meaning you have to know some coding,
but they have easy insert tags that will help you along if you're
just starting out on webpage design. It has a huge nice
tutorial in it with all the definitions of the tags...its worth
the download just for the tutorial. This product is very
similar to CoffeeCup Html, only it has two advantages, cleaner
layout of the program and its free! It has a library of
Javascripts that can easily been inserted into your webpage.
This was the best free webpage editor that I found and it can
be used by any level of webpage designer from beginner to advanced.
If you want to download a copy of this program you can get it

NoteTab
Light 4.9
Rating:
Cost: Free
Review: This program
is only for people that know HTML and wants to write in the
code themselves. Basically it looks like notepad with
extra features added...while this may be very appealing to some
it would be a turn off to beginners and even intermediate level
users. I've used it for awhile, but raw coding is fine
for some, but there are just better alternatives then this html
editor. If you want to raw code your html then this is
the program for you and its free, so no harm done to the wallet
either. If you would like to download a free copy you
can get it here

CoffeeCup HTML Editor
Rating:
Cost: $49
Review: Coffeecup
HTML isn't a WYSIWYG editor, so you'll be dealing with raw html
code if you use this program and probably not the best for beginners.
It does come with a nice library of javascripts that is fairly
easy to add to your pages. I've never been a fan of Coffeecup's
layout though...the viewing space for the coding seems small
to me and with better programs available I opted not to use
this editor. The price is good though, cheaper then most
of the html editors, but there are free html editors (1st Page
2000) that are just as good with just as many functions.
You can download a trial version here
CoffeeCup HTML Editor.
This
is just the list of html editors I could think of off the top
of my head, I've used other programs like Arachnophile or something
like that, but I think the company went out of business.
Any of these programs are a good starting point...the best freeware
one is 1st Page and its better then Coffeecup. Easiest
to use is FrontPage and the most professional and best html
editor is Dreamweaver MX. If you have any other html editors
that I haven't tried out just send me an email with the name
of it and I'll download it and give it a try.
