Anise Seed Biscuits
A great breakfast treat!
1 tsp. anise seed
1 c. water
¾ c. melted Crisco shortening
6 t. melted butter
2 t. melted butter
2 t. baking powder
1 tsp. orange extract
1 c. milk
½ tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
2 to 3 c. all-purpose flour, or enough to make a
soft dough that will leave the sides of the bowl
Soak anise seed in water and strain. Reserve liquid and add the
remaining ingredients to anise liquid. Mix all ingredients
thoroughly in a large bowl. When you get to the flour, you may have
to knead in the last bit of flour. Form into 2 or 3
loaves. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes on an
ungreased pan. Cool and slice into pieces and return
to oven to toast both sides of cookies.
