Search Engines
This is a brief list of the
most important search engines or directories you should try to get
your page listed on and that you should manually submit. For all
the other smaller engines, it's fine to use an autosubmitter.

Search Engine |
URL/Comment |
|
Yahoo |
www.yahoo.com
- Probably the most important directory to
get listed with, but also the hardest to get a page listed listed on.
Make sure you submit to an appropriate category, then wait two or so
weeks and try again. This is not an easy directory to get on,
but the benefits are amazing. |
|
Google |
www.google.com
- This probably is the second most important, cause, Yahoo now uses Google for the web searches, so a high listing on Google would also
lead to prominence on yahoo. A very search engine and you should
definitely manually submit. |
|
Altavista |
www.altavista.com
- Of late altavista has been less and less of an appealing search
engine, however, millions of people use it and getting on Altavista is
a must. You can't auto submit to them, they have a new code that
prevents programs from auto submitting a URL. Take the time to
enter it. |
|
DMOZ |
www.dmoz.org - Also
known as the open directory, it is very similar to Yahoo, only you
stand a much better chance of getting listed. Dmoz is used
as the search engine for a number of sites. So a listing here
will bring in traffic for your pages. |
|
Jeeves |
www.ask.com - Yes the annoying little butler gets a listing in
this group of search engines. A lot of people use it, but not
exactly easy to get on. You have to email them and hope they
deem your site valuable enough :o) |
