How to Post In A Newsgroups

Many people find the draw of spamming a newsgroup too alluring to pass up.  They think, "what harm could be done" and they go ahead and post a million ads in newsgroups that aren't related to the topic of their webpage, they ignore the spamming rules set by the administrators of the newsgroups, and in the end they get labeled a spammer by the readers of the newsgroups.  So, what can happen if you do this?  How about losing your web host?  Getting kicked off your ISP?  Losing the advertisers for your web site?  All these things can happen if you spam a newsgroup with blind ads.  Does this mean you avoid newsgroup postings?  No, you just have to do it within the guidelines of a particular newsgroup.

So, how do you post your url with out doing an ad for your web site?  Well, there is a little thing called a signature file, this is added to any of your postings when you post to any newsgroup.  So, say you're a webmaster and you post to the html newsgroups.  You see someone has a question that you can answer.  So you answer the question on the newsgroup, your signature file is attached to the listing, and you've just successfully put your URL in a newsgroup that is related to the topic of your webpage.  Signature files are NOT considered spam by newsgroup users.  So, a subtle way to get your URL into newsgroups.

Remember, signature files aren't just for newsgroups, also your email can have an attached signature file...another way to subtly put your URL out there and not spam.  Bad publicity for a website doesn't help you build a loyal devoted following.  So, don't spam!
