Chocolate the Secret Killer by Jackie Jones

So, you're a dog, and your sweetheart gives you a box of chocolates for Valentine's Day, is this a sign that they love you?  NO, they're trying to poison you with chocolate.  Most people don't realize that chocolate is highly toxic to dogs.  Theobromine is what makes chocolate toxic for dogs and in sufficient quantities can kill us.  Under no circumstances if you're a dog, should you be eating chocolate...I don't care how good it looks...its just not made for us.

Now, if you ingest a tiny amount of chocolate, it will not kill you, because you need a certain level of Theobromine, but, dogs should never ingest chocolate.  Keep it out of the reach of your dogs and make sure that they don't eat any because you don't want to injure us accidentally.

Here are some warning signs if your a dog and you've eaten enough chocolate to have toxic levels of theobromine:

Hyper excitability
Hyper irritability
Increased heart rate
Restlessness
Increased urination
Muscle tremors
Vomiting
Diarrhea

Now, what are the cures for this?  There aren't any...but there are a few things your owner can do.  If your a dog and you've eaten enough chocolate to be toxic, have you're owner induce vomiting, this will get some of the undigested chocolate out of you.  All other treatments must be administered by a your Vet, including oxygen therapy, activated charcoal might absorb some of the toxin...but first and foremost, contact your vet immediately for help.

So remember, chocolate is not our friend, stay away from it, and get medical help if you've ingested enough to be considered toxic levels.  Oh, and, ask your sweetheart to get you a box of doggie bones on Valentine's day, because if you see chocolate coming your way, I would suggest you get a new sweetheart.
