Greeting Cards
Christmas greeting cards were invented in England in 1843.
John Callcott Horsley, a painter, designed the first Christmas Card
at the urging of one of his friends. He designed the card
in 1840 and it went on sale three years later when 1000 of these
cards were produced at the price of 1 shilling each. The Christmas
card was produced in the United States in 1850. During the
Civil War Abraham Lincoln asked Thomas Nast to design a Christmas
Card to inspire the Union Troops. Nast designed the first
Christmas card to feature the jolly Santa that we've come to know
and love. |
