5 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1 cup milk
1/3 cup poppy seeds
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup golden raisins
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease
and flour a loaf pan 9 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch.
In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar together
until its blended. Beat in the eggs, do this one at a time, and
continue until it is light. In another bowl, mix all the dry ingredients,
flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg until it is well blended.
Add the flout mixture with the milk to the creamed mixture, blend
well. Then stir in the poppy seeds, nuts, and raisins.
Once you have the batter ready, pour it into
the pans. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done (test to
see if the bread is done). Remove from pan and let it cool on the
rack.
